Compressive strength is an extremely important\nparameter in the design of composite materials that is\nalways tested. However, due to the difficulty of testing\ncompressive strength there is a variety of test methods.\nA major compression test method is the combined\nloading compression (CLC) method found in ASTM\nD6641. The CLC method can be performed with a\nsimple jig structure, untabbed strip specimens, and can\nbe used to simultaneously evaluate strength and\nmeasure elastic modulus. We performed compression\ntesting of CFRP according to ASTM D6641.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2daabf1 e-grid e-con-full e-con e-child\" data-id=\"2daabf1\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-25dc8b7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"25dc8b7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2><strong>Measurement System<\/strong><\/h2>\nA CFRP specimen of T800S\/3900 was used. Other\ninformation on the specimen is shown in Table 1. The\ntest equipment used is shown in Table 2. Based on the\nCLC method in ASTM D6641, the specimen was\nattached to the jig shown in Fig. 1 and compressed\nusing compression plate. Fig. 2 shows a photograph of\nthe specimen. As shown in Fig. 2, a strain gauge was\nattached on the front and rear in the middle of the\nspecimen. Outputs from the front and rear strain\ngauges confirmed that the specimen was aligned\nstraight in the jig during specimen attachment. The\nspecimen was attached using a torque wrench to fasten\nit in place uniformly. The test was performed with the\ntest speed set to 1.3 mm\/min.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cbf94ad elementor-widget class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2><strong>Test Results<\/strong><\/h2><p>Measurements were performed twice, and stress-strain<br \/>curves are shown in Fig. 3. The strain used is the mean<br \/>strain taken from the front and rear sides of the<br \/>specimen. The relationship between the first strain<br \/>measurement and time is shown in Fig. 4 to show the<br \/>outputs obtained from the strain gauges. Fig. 4 shows<br \/>the outputs from both strain gauges were almost the<br \/>same up to around 40 seconds, which is evidence that<br \/>the test was successful. A small amount of deviation<br \/>between the strain gauges arises after around 0.5 %<br \/>strain, which is caused by a small amount of specimen<br \/>flexure. Table 3 shows the test results. The mean<br \/>compressive strength was 640.7 MPa, and the mean<br \/>elastic modulus was 72.9 GPa. Elastic modulus was<br \/>calculated using the mean of the strain gauge outputs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2ca644d standard test method allows the testing of\nuntabbed strip specimens, compressive strength and\nelastic modulus can be determined relatively easily
